1. 1. Download the firmware updat
   program.

1. 2. Close all applications and remov
   any discs from the PC optical drives (CD or DVD).

1. 3. Double-click the icon for updat
   file downloaded in step 1, and then click NEXT.

1. 4. Accept the terms in the HP licens
   agreement, and then click NEXT.

1. 5. You can use either a flopp
   diskette option or the CD disc option to update the firmware of th
   drive. In the "Cyber/­Argus 48x Firmware Update" window, selec
   either Floppy Diskette or CD Disc, and then click OK.

1. 6. If you select Floppy Diskette
   continue with Step 7. If you select CD Disc, go to Step 12.

1. 7. Insert the blank floppy diskett
   and click OK in the "Cyber/­Argus 48x Firmware Update" window.

1. 8. Wait a few minutes for the progra
   to make the Firmware Update boot diskette.

1. 9. Leave the floppy diskette in th
   floppy disk drive and click OK to restart the PC.

1. 10. Wait for the PC to boot into th
   Firmware Update program, and follow the instructions to update th
   firmware. Be sure to read the instructions carefully. Failure t
   follow the instructions will damage the drive. Make sure any disc
   are removed from the CD/­DVD drives and the trays are in the close
   position before proceeding with the firmware update program.

1. 11. After the firmware update i
   completed, remove the floppy diskette from the floppy disk driv
   and restart the PC.

1. 12. Follow the following steps if yo
   select CD Disc option in Step 5.

1. 13. Click OK in the "Cyber/­Argus 48
   Firmware Update" window. The Firmware Update program files ar
   located in the C:HPSoftpaqSP23986 directory.

1. 14. Use RecordNow to make the boot C
   disc to update the firmware of the drive. Click START, Al
   Programs, CD (DVD) Recorder, RecordNow, RecordNow

1. 15. In the RecordNow applicatio
   window, click Make a Data Disc.

1. 16. Insert the blank CD disc into th
   drive and click NEXT.

1. 17. Click Add Files and Folders.

1. 18. Navigate to th
   C:HPSoftpaqSP23986 directory, select the "SP23986.ISO", an
   click ADD.

1. 19. Click YES at the RecordNow dialo
   window.

1. 20. Wait for RecordNow to complet
   making the boot CD disc.

1. 21. Leave the disc in the drive an
   restart the PC.

1. 22. Go to Step 10 to complete th
   firmware update.
